Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, chief of TIPRA Motha, has strongly opposed the BJP’s proposal to rename the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, terming the move unacceptable and against the interests of the indigenous Tiprasa community.

His reaction comes a day after Manik Saha unveiled the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming ADC elections. The manifesto proposes renaming TTAADC as the Tripura Autonomous Territorial Council (TATC) if the party comes to power.

Addressing a public gathering at Ampi in Gomati district, Pradyot alleged that the BJP intends to remove the word 'Tribal' from the council’s name. He asserted that such a move undermines the identity and constitutional safeguards of the indigenous people. “We will not compromise on the rights and identity of the Tiprasa community,” he stated firmly.

Pradyot also raised concerns over the issue of adopting the Roman script for the Kokborok language. He accused the BJP of maintaining a contradictory stance, opposing the Roman script on the grounds of foreign origin while using the same script in its own manifesto. This, he said, reflects inconsistency in policy and intent.

During his speech, he also referred to BJP candidate Sadagar Kalai, expressing personal respect for him while suggesting that he may return to TIPRA Motha in the future. He added that the party’s doors remain open for those committed to the cause of indigenous rights.

On the campaign trail, Pradyot attended multiple public meetings across constituencies such as Ampinagar, Maharani–Chellagang, and Kathalia–Mirza–Rajapur. Large gatherings were reported, indicating strong grassroots support for TIPRA Motha, which currently holds power in the ADC.
