Around 2.16 lakh farmers in Tripura will receive Rs 46.36 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme as part of the 22nd instalment released by the Centre, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Friday.
The minister shared the information after attending the programme for the release of the instalment virtually along with Chief Minister Manik Saha. The event was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Guwahati in Assam.
A state-level programme in this connection was held at the State Agriculture Research Station at AD Nagar in Agartala.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the Centre had introduced schemes through which benefits are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts without intermediaries.
Nath said the PM-KISAN scheme was launched to provide financial assistance to farmers and supplement their income. The scheme became operational from December 1, 2018, while its implementation in Tripura began in February 2019, he said.
Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each, which are directly credited to their bank accounts. The entire expenditure of the scheme is borne by the Central government, the minister said.
He said farmers who have received land titles under the Recognition of Forest Rights (ROFR) areas in the state are also benefiting from the scheme.
According to Nath, a total of 2,85,521 farmers in Tripura have received financial assistance amounting to Rs 931.53 crore directly in their bank accounts up to the 21st instalment of the scheme.
At the national level, Rs 18,630 crore was released as part of the 22nd instalment, benefiting over 9.32 crore eligible farmers across the country, the minister added.
