Tripura’s lone Muslim MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tafajjal Hossain, on Tuesday urged members of the Muslim community to prioritise modern education to ensure their socio-economic progress.
Speaking at the inauguration of a minority welfare scheme here, Hossain said inadequate access to modern education has been a major factor behind the community’s slow socio-economic advancement.
He observed that many families continue to rely primarily on religious education for their children, often influenced by religious clerics, which limits their opportunities in a rapidly changing society.
“Lack of proper education is one of the key reasons behind our limited socio-economic progress. If our children do not participate in the mainstream education system, they miss out on wider opportunities available in various professional fields,” the MLA said.
Hossain clarified that religious leaders perform important roles within the community, but modern education equips young people with broader skills that enable them to contribute more effectively to society and the nation.
He encouraged parents to ensure their children pursue higher education in diverse disciplines so that they can take part in nation-building and improve their economic prospects.
Emphasising national unity, Hossain said the country must always remain the foremost priority. He added that citizens should take pride in their identity as Indians while working collectively for the country’s development.
