Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday appealed to the public not to resort to panic buying, stating that the state has adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG despite concerns arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with representatives of merchant associations and petrol pump owners, Chowdhury said the government had reviewed the situation following reports of increased fuel purchases in parts of the state.

He said apprehensions about a possible shortage of petroleum products were unfounded and assured that sufficient stocks were available. The minister said he had also held discussions with Indian Oil officials, who informed him that the state had more than adequate supplies for at least the next one month.

Chowdhury said shortages typically arise due to disruptions in railway or highway transportation, adding that transport movement was currently normal and weather conditions were favourable.

He urged people not to crowd petrol pumps or engage in unnecessary purchases, as such actions could create avoidable anxiety.

In separate social media posts, the minister reiterated that sufficient stocks of petroleum products and essential commodities were available and that the situation remained normal.

He said the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department was taking steps to ensure smooth supply and stable prices across the state. Merchant bodies were advised to maintain reasonable prices, and he warned that any attempt to create artificial shortages or engage in black marketing would invite action.

Long queues were seen at some petrol pumps in Agartala since Monday night amid fears of a supply disruption.
