Bizarre : woman constable injured by aggressive and unruly woman agitator in Kamalpur

In a bizarre incident, possibly the first of its kind in the state , an unruly and aggressive woman inflicted serious injuries on a woman constable while being restrained by the latter in her ways in Salema market area under Kamalpur subdivision. While the attacker woman was arrested, the injured woman constable was admitted first to the Salema primary health centre and then referred to the Dhalai district hospital in Kulai with a fractured hand. This happened yesterday in the evening.

Giving details police sources said that a small police party from the Salema police station was posted in the local market yesterday as it was market day yesterday. All of a sudden in the evening two tribal women Uma Rani Debbarma (35) and Preeti Debbarma (36) were seen engaging in a massive quarrel with both exchanging blows and pulling at hairs of each other . The members of the police party rushed to the spot and tried to disengage them but in the melee Uma Debbarma attacked woman constable Rakhi Das with a stick she had picked from road side and seriously injured .

Her colleagues rescued Rakhi Das and sent her to the Salema primary health centre where the doctor on duty saw that Rakhi had a fractured hand and referred her to Dhalai district hospital in Kulai. After shifting Rakhi to Kulai the police party arrested the attacker lady Uma Rani Debbarma for physical assault on the woman constable and for trying to obstruct her in her government assigned duty . Uma Rani Debbarma was sent to three days of Jail custody by the judicial magistrate in Kamalpur after being produced in court today.
