Despite almost daily seizures and arrests ‘Ganja’ (cannabis) peddling in and smuggling from the state has been continuing . During the past eight years ‘Ganja’ hauls worth crores of rupees in the black market have been seized by police and reportedly destroyed through burning but in most of the cases the peddlers or smugglers have managed to secure bail from courts through legal loopholes despite arrests under the draconian NDPS act. The lucrative business therefore continues without any significant interruption.

This morning also a police team from Mungiakami police station seized twenty kgs of dry ‘Ganja’ and arrested two Bihari smugglers from the railway station there in a successful operation. Police sources from Mungiakami said that acting on a specific and detailed tip-off, a team of the Mungiakami police station led by the officer in charge (OC) Sanesh Debbarma raided a train compartment in the Mungiakami station . The team conducted a search operation on two passengers Madhu Kumar and Santosh Kumar and found a cleverly hidden stock of twenty kgs of ‘Ganja’ from their bags. Both Madhu and Santosh Kumar from Bihar and bound for their home state were arrested . The OC Sanesh Debbarma said that both the nabbed persons would be produced in court for custodial interrogation and cases under the NDPS act have been registered against them.
