Seminar held by the forest department on plant health, tradition and livelihood in Prajna Bhawan

A significant seminar was held by the forest department in the Hall no-1 of the government run Prajna Bhawan auditorium today on the theme of ‘Medicinal plants, fragrant plants, health, and tradition and livelihood protection’. The seminar was aimed at creating and spreading awareness among people over the urgent need for environmental protection on the occasion of the World Environment Day today.

The main speaker in the seminar was the minister for forest Animesh Debbarma. In his address to the seminar Animesh highlighted the rapid degradation of the environment across the globe, as reflected in the rising global temperature, serious dangers posed by the rapid erosion and melting of the glaciers in polar region as also in the mountainous regions. “We must remember that even now there are hundreds-possibly thousands- of communities who are forest dwellers and who depend on the greenery of the forest for their livelihood , food and well being’ for them preservation and enrichment of the environment manifested in the forests and their resources are questions of life death “ said Animesh . He asked the listeners as well as the broader sections of people to be conscious of the need for protection of forest and overall environment. The senior officials of the forest department were present in the seminar , attended by a packed audience.
