Senior BJP leader and former East Tripura MP Rebati Tripura on Monday said that “jail is inevitable” for anyone found guilty of corruption, sharpening the political rhetoric ahead of elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).Addressing a party rally at Demdum Kachucherra, Tripura asserted that no political leader would be able to evade the law if charges of corruption were established. His remarks were seen as a direct attack on leaders of the regional party Tipra Motha, which currently wields significant influence in the TTAADC.“It has become almost certain that the BJP will wrest power in the TTAADC in the next elections,” Tripura said, claiming that public support for the party was steadily rising in the tribal-dominated hill areas. He added that the BJP’s expanding organisational presence in the Autonomous District Council areas had unsettled its political opponents.Referring to recent political exchanges, Tripura countered remarks by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, a key leader associated with Tipra Motha, who had earlier suggested that there were no jails in Tripura meant for him. “The jails in Tripura are well equipped to keep anyone inside, provided the allegations against them are proved as per law,” Tripura said.He further stated that if the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the TTAADC, it would order an audit of the council’s administration. “If corruption is proved in accordance with the law, legal action will be initiated. Jail will be an inevitable option for those involved,” he said.

The TTAADC, which administers large swathes of tribal-majority areas in Tripura, has been a key political battleground between the BJP and Tipra Motha. The upcoming elections are expected to be closely contested, with both sides intensifying their campaigns in recent weeks.BJP state General Secretary Bipin Debbarma also addressed the gathering, criticising Tipra Motha and urging voters to back the BJP in the forthcoming polls. There was no immediate response from Tipra Motha leaders to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
