A sensational broad daylight gang war linked to drug trafficking has rocked Charilam under Sepahijala district, with 11 identified drug mafia members now facing charges, Superintendent of Police Sepahijala District Bijay Debbarma confirmed during a late-night press briefing yesterday.The violent incident, involving the looting of a Phensedyl-loaded vehicle and a brutal attack on the driver, has triggered widespread tension in the area.According to the local sources, a Max cargo vehicle (TR01D3844) carrying contraband Phensedyl worth approximately Rs 15 lakh was traveling from Sonamura to an undisclosed destination when it was intercepted.The incident unfolded dramatically at Chhirailam (Charilam) Bazar after the vehicle was initially blocked at the Bishalgarh bypass by the notorious Bhuttu gang, allegedly involved in drug trafficking operations in the region.
The gang reportedly used two vehicles to block the road in an attempt to stop the Phensedyl-laden cargo vehicle. However, the driver accelerated and attempted to escape, damaging several vehicles in the process. The gang members then chased the vehicle.The local sources said that the cargo vehicle was eventually forced to stop at Charilam Bazar, where the attackers looted the entire consignment of Phensedyl Assaulted the driver with knives Brandished firearms and sharp weapons Created panic among local residents. Police recovered the damaged vehicle and took the detained accused into custody. The injured driver is currently undergoing treatment at Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital.Superintendent of Police Bijay Debbarma confirmed that 11 individuals involved in the gang war have been identified. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them, and raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
The SP further stated that the investigation is being conducted on a priority basis, and strict action will be taken against those involved in organized criminal activities in Sepahijala district.The incident has also raised serious questions as the Phensedyl-laden vehicle managed to pass through despite the presence of traffic police and personnel from Bishalgarh Police Station in the vicinity.Authorities have assured a thorough probe into all aspects of the case, including possible lapses.The situation in Charilam and adjoining areas remains under close police surveillance to prevent further escalation.
