Woman Police Constable Injured During Clash at Salema Market in Dhalai District

A woman police constable was injured while attempting to control a violent altercation at Salema Bazaar under Salema police station in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Saturday evening, triggering tension in the locality.
According to sources, the incident occurred during a dispute between two women, identified as Rani Debbarma and Priti Debbarma, in the market area. The argument reportedly escalated quickly, creating unrest and panic among shopkeepers and local residents.
Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Among them was woman constable Rakhi Das, who was on duty at Salema Police Station. While trying to pacify the crowd and prevent further escalation, she was allegedly attacked by one of the women involved in the altercation.
In the scuffle, Constable Rakhi Das sustained serious injuries. Preliminary medical reports indicate that one of her hands was fractured. She was immediately taken to Salema Primary Health Centre for first aid and later referred to Dhalai District Hospital for advanced treatment. She is currently undergoing medical care.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, particularly over questions of safety and law and order. Many locals expressed worry, stating that if a member of the police force can be assaulted while on duty, it raises serious concerns about public security in the area.
Police sources confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident. Legal action is underway against the accused, and security measures in the market area have been tightened to prevent further disturbances. The accused woman has reportedly been detained for questioning.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law and that peace and normalcy will be maintained in the region.
