Man duped into marrying male partner disguised as woman in Agartala

In a startling incident, a young man was allegedly duped into marrying his male partner who had been living in disguise as a woman, police and family sources said on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Mohanpur, Gajaria.

The incident came to light shortly after the marriage when members of the groom’s family claimed they discovered that the ‘bride’ was biologically male. The revelation triggered commotion in the locality, with locals gathering at the couple’s residence.

According to the groom’s family, the two had been in a relationship for nearly six years and had recently eloped to solemnise their marriage. The family alleged that the accused, identified as Nayan Das of Camperbazar in Agartala, concealed his gender identity and misled their son.

In a purported confession, Das said he took the step out of love and admitted that he had received financial assistance from his partner over the years. He claimed he was unable to repay the money but denied any malicious intent behind the marriage.

Das further stated that his parents were aware he had left home to live with the person he loved.

Police said the matter is being looked into following complaints from the family.
