THRO conference held , new committees formed under leadership of advocate Purushottam Roybarman

The Tripura Human Rights Organisation (THRO), a pro-left rights body that has been function in the state over the past two decades, held it sixth biennial conference in Agartala Press Club on February 28. Altogether 110 delegates from all over the state attended the daylong conference and discussed many important issues , focussing on human rights violations. The opening song in the daylong conference was presented by the THRO member Samanta Saha while the delegates observed a minute’s silence to pay respect to the departed members of the organisation,Gyananda Roy and Pradyot Chowdhury.

This was followed by the presentation of the secretarial report in which the secretary of the organisation Purushottam Roybarman ritually lashed out at the BJP and its misrule in states and centre, holding it responsible for all the ills in the country. He also reiterated the CPI (M)’s hackneyed political line that BJP is a fascist force which is presiding over gross violation of human rights all over the country. There was discussion over the secretarial report and all the speakers consensually spewed venom at the BJP as if all other parties in the country embody marches of God on India .

At the end of the conference a 47-member central committee and a 15-member executive committee were formed . Tarun Chakraborty and Purushottam Roybarman were reelected as president and secretary while Nibedita Debbarma, Dr Prashanta Chakraborty and Nikhil Datta were reelected as vice presidents. Advocate Kaushik Nath and Asish Mookherjee were made assistant secretaries . It was also resolved that THRO would further expand its activities in different parts of the state.
