The recent spurt in targeted Hindu killing and hounding show no sign of abating in Bangladesh. According to latest information a Hindu small trader identified as Joy Mahapatra (30) , son of Suresh Mahapatra (60) of Iqbalpur village under Sunamganj district in northeastern Bangladesh bordering the Indian state of Meghalaya, was beaten on the head by a Muslim miscreant identified as Abul Mia on his way back on last Thursday night. He lay unconscious on the road bleeding profusely and a group of locals rushed him to Sunamganj hospital . Since his condition was very critical Joy Mahapatra had to be shifted on Thursday itself to MAG Osmani hospital in Sylhet by his family but on that very night Joy breathed his last . The post-mortem report released by the hospital attributed his death to head injury sustained in beating and also forcible poisoning through his mouth to ensure death. Sources from Bangladesh said that relevant other details about the tragic murder are still awaited. The killing of Joy Mahapatra has raised the total death toll of Hindus murdered by the ‘Momins’ in Bangladesh to 23 over the past one month since December 18.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh police that had arrested the actual mastermind behind the lynching to death and burning of Deepu Ranjan Das on December 18 with much fanfare and amid social media euphoria released him honourably on Friday. Sources said that a ‘Madrasa’ teacher Yasin Arafat who had masterminded and orchestrated the lynching of Deepu Ranjan Das, a supervisor in a garment factory in Bhalukia area of Mymensing district on December 18, had been arrested by police on last Thursday-that is, January 8- but he was released yesterday in the morning after spending a comfortable night in the post police station , sleeping on a cot and being fed a rich feast. There was visible enthusiasm among the Bhalukia police station officers and employees to take selfies with the fiend Yasin Arafat. The fact that the police released him from the police station itself without producing him in court proves what is going on in Bangladesh in the name of policing and judicial functioning .
