Youth with pistol nabbed by personnel of Puran Rajbari police station in Belonia

Alongside increasing drug trafficking illegal arms trade and adverse possession has also emerged as a problem in Tripura. This was evident from the arrest of a youth carrying a pistoi around his waist by a youth named Saumen Shil (32) by a team of Rajbari police station under Belonia subdivision this morning.

Sources from Belonia said that a team of Puran Rajabari police station had been carrying out a routine search operation at the ‘Naka’ point near the police station. While the search operation was on the team detained a speeding motor bike being driven by one Saumen Shil who behaved abnormally and once tried to run away . But he was caught and searched a foreign pistol from his waist for which he could not give any proper explanation . He was immediately arrested and his pistol and motor bike were seized . He is being produced in court .

The officer in charge of Puran Rajbari police station Ratan Ravidas said that the nabbed youth had been going from Gabtoli to Barpathari where he belongs. “We have registered a case under arms act against the nabbed persons and he will be put through intensive interrogation after we receive polie remand from court” said Ratan Ravidas . He added that according to his primary assumption the youth might have procured the pistol from across the border for use or sale within the state.
