The construction of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) mandal office at Simna formally began on Wednesday under tight security provided by central paramilitary forces. The work was initiated after a prolonged delay caused by opposition and repeated disruptions in the area.

According to local sources, the construction work had earlier been halted due to objections and resistance from supporters of the Tipra Motha party, which has been spearheading the demand for a separate ‘Tipraland’. BJP supporters in the Simna area were allegedly attacked on multiple occasions by Tipra Motha supporters when attempts were made earlier to start the construction of the party office.

In view of the tense situation and concerns over law and order, a large contingent of central armed police forces was deployed in the area on Wednesday, following which the construction work resumed without interruption.

After formally inaugurating the construction work, the BJP Simna Mandal President made strong political allegations while speaking to local media. He claimed that Tipra Motha was acting as a proxy of the CPI(M) and alleged that CPI(M) supporters in the border areas were operating under the banner of Tipra Motha to create unrest and obstruct BJP’s organizational activities.

He further alleged that those advocating for Tipraland were, in reality, CPI(M) workers and asserted that Tipra Motha would fail to win even a single seat in the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections.

The situation in Simna remains sensitive, though authorities stated that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure peaceful completion of the construction work.
