Public resistance against drug peddling in rural and urban areas seems to be growing in different parts of the state . Already several such instances of drug peddlers being caught and handed over to police have come to the public domain. In the latest instance a drug peddler identified as Ambar Ali (30) was caught by police in an area close to Kadamtala police station in Dharma Nagar subdivision this morning.

Police sources from Kadamtala said that, acting on tip off about a drug peddler moving about in the area close to the police station, a police and TSR party had been lying in wait in a roadside corner . They soon saw a youth approaching the Kadamtala market and tried to detain him but the youth, later identified as Amabar Ali , tried to flee the area. The police party gave him a hot chase and finally caught up with him . He was immediately arrested and through a body search operation he was found to be carrying approximately 100 grams of highly addictive Brown Sugar.

The officer in charge of Kadamtala police station Jayanta Debnath said that nabbed Ambar Ali had been booked under the NDPS act . He is being produced in court today with petition for remand so that he can be put through intensive interrogation for extracting information on the source of the seized Brown Sugar and names of others in the peddling racket.
