Tripura’s Raj Bhavan, renamed Lok Bhavan as per directives from New Delhi, has officially been opened to the general public from yesterday. This major shift comes under the sincere initiative of Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who aimed to make the state’s gubernatorial residence more accessible and transparent to the people.

For decades, entry to Raj Bhavan had remained restricted, leaving citizens curious about the it. Responding to public interest, the Governor undertook the step to transform Raj Bhavan into Lok Bhavan, symbolizing a space closer to the people.

A few months ago, the road in front of the Raj Bhavan was abruptly closed to pedestrians for security reasons, creating inconvenience for morning and evening walkers. The decision drew considerable criticism, following which the road was eventually reopened to the public.

After the renaming of Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan under central government instructions, officials have now confirmed that the premises will remain open to visitors every Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

According to the information released by the Tripura Lok Bhavan authorities, a total of 75 visitors will be allowed entry each Saturday, divided into batches of 25 people, who can explore the premises within the allotted three-hour window.

On the opening day, however, public turnout remained minimal, mainly due to limited prior publicity.

The initiative marks a new chapter in public engagement with the ceremonial heart of Tripura, offering citizens a rare opportunity to witness the state’s gubernatorial residence from within.
