IndiGo Operations Collapse: Thousands Stranded at Agartala MBB Airport Amid Mass Cancellations, Airfare Skyrockets as Passengers Cry Anarchy and Inhuman Treatment

A chaotic and distressing scene unfolded today at Agartala MBB Airport, where hundreds of passengers were seen waiting helplessly in long queues since early morning following IndiGo’s massive operational crisis and flight cancellations across the country. The airline, known as India’s largest carrier, has been facing severe disruptions for several days, leading to widespread public anger and unprecedented inconvenience.
Passengers at the airport expressed outrage, saying that they were not being treated with basic humanity. Many complained of complete mismanagement, lack of information, and no clarity about their travel fate. Some described the situation as total anarchy, questioning how privatization has led to such a collapse in essential services.
Meanwhile, airfares on alternative flights have skyrocketed. Passengers reported that a Kolkata–Bengaluru ticket has surged to nearly Rs. 1 lakh, leaving stranded travellers shocked and without options. “Where will common people go? This is unimaginable,” said a distraught passenger at MBB Airport.
Across India, IndiGo’s flight operations have virtually crumbled, sparking speculation and public debate. Some voices on social media and among passengers alleged that the ongoing crisis may be paving the way for Adani Group’s imminent entry into the aviation sector, though no official confirmation has been issued.
Critics described the behaviour of major airlines as loot and lawlessness, arguing that at a time when people are desperate for assistance, airlines are instead imposing exorbitant ticket prices. “Someone’s misfortune becomes another’s profit—this has never been truer, said a passenger stuck in Agartala.
Amid rising public fury, IndiGo issued a formal apology, acknowledging the hardship caused to passengers and outlining several measures:
Key points from IndiGo’s official statement:
* Full refund for all cancelled flights will be automatically transferred to the original payment method.
* Free rescheduling for all bookings between 5–15 December 2025.
* Hotel stays and surface transport being arranged for stranded passengers in various cities.
* Food and snacks being provided at airports for waiting travellers.
* Efforts underway to decongest airports and restore full operations gradually.
IndiGo also urged passengers to check flight status online and avoid coming to the airport if their flight is cancelled. The company says it has expanded contact-centre capacity and introduced an AI assistant to speed up refunds and rebooking.
Despite these assurances, the situation on the ground remains grim, with many travellers stuck without accommodation, food, or clear communication.
As India’s busiest airline struggles to regain control, passengers across the country, especially at Agartala MBB Airport, continue to bear the brunt of a crisis that experts describe as one of the worst aviation service collapses in recent years.
