Tripura farmers receive Rs 900 crore under PM-Kisan: Minister

Nearly 2.5 lakh farmers in Tripura have so far received a cumulative Rs 900 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, state Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Thursday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the state-level orange festival, Nath said the 21st instalment of PM-Kisan was recently disbursed to beneficiaries across the state.
He said agriculture remains the backbone of Tripura’s economy, contributing 46 per cent of total revenue, while tourism and business jointly account for 41 per cent and industries 13 per cent.
Nath highlighted that Tripura’s farmers are producing high-quality oranges, citrus fruits, onions and Apical Root Cutting varieties of potato, and that orange cultivation has expanded across districts.
The minister further said Tripura has surpassed 17 states in Sustainable Development Goals performance and earned appreciation from NITI Aayog for its progress.
