In a historic development for the northeastern region of India, prominent political leaders from different states of the Northeast have come together to announce the formation of a united political platform under the banner 'One North East.' The joint statement was signed in New Delhi on Tuesday, marking a milestone moment of regional solidarity and collective political vision.

The signatories include Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya and National President of the National People’s Party (NPP); Shri Pradyot Bikram Manikya, Founder of the TIPRA Motha Party; Shri Mmhonlumo Kikon, Former BJP National Spokesperson and Minister, Government of Nagaland; and Shri Daniel Langthasa, Founder of the People’s Party, Assam.

According to the joint statement, the leaders have decided to form a united political entity that will represent the collective aspirations and identity of the people of the Northeast at the national level. The document emphasizes the importance of unity, shared vision, and indigenous representation, asserting that our strength lies in unity, and it is time to give our people one collective voice.

Drawing inspiration from the region’s great leaders who dedicated their lives to the development and identity of the Northeast, the signatories vowed to carry forward their legacy. They announced the creation of a committee to deliberate on the structure and modalities of the proposed political entity, with a focus on ensuring that the voice of the Northeast is respected and represented in national discourse.

“Our united effort is guided by a conviction that the people of the North East deserve to be heard, respected, and represented through a strong, unified, and indigenous political voice at the national level,” the statement reads.

The “One North East” initiative is seen as the first major step toward forging a cohesive political alliance across state boundaries, rooted in common issues, cultural identity, and regional priorities.

The leaders concluded their statement with a pledge:

“Together, we stand committed to building a stronger, more united North East.”
