The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), held a massive protest rally in Kailashahar on Sunday, accusing Congress MLA and former minister Birajit Sinha of inciting unrest and attempting to disturb peace in the town.
The rally, led by Tripura Minister Tinku Roy, saw thousands of BJP supporters and workers marching from the party’s district office at Paiturbazar to the Kailashahar Municipal Council premises. Senior BJP and BJYM leaders, including Unakoti District President Arup Dhar, State Secretary Shubhankar Majumder, District President Bimal Kar, and General Secretary Arun Saha, also took part in the demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, BJYM district president Arup Dhar alleged that Sinha had organised a rally without administrative approval and that participants carried sharp weapons, spreading fear among residents. He further accused the Congress MLA of bringing in outsiders, including alleged miscreants from across the border, to create chaos.
BJYM state secretary Shubhankar Majumder charged that Sinha was trying to “revive the politics of violence” associated with the Congress regime of earlier decades. “The BJP will not tolerate any attempt to disturb peace in Kailashahar. Our workers are disciplined and follow the ideals of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, but we will strongly resist any effort to destabilise the town,” he said.
Later, at a press briefing, BJP spokesperson Debasish Sen reiterated the allegations, claiming that Congress workers led by Sinha had brandished arms during a recent clash over a contract dispute at Paiturbazar. He also alleged that Sinha had a history of political violence dating back to his tenure as a minister in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The BJP leaders urged the administration to take strict action to maintain law and order in Kailashahar and ensure that “no political leader is allowed to incite violence under any pretext.”
