A section of unruly elements and downright anti-socials beyond control of the state BJP seem to have taken upon themselves the task of preventing the opposition CPI (M) and Congress from launching any organizational programme. Such a thing happened in the Bhagalpur area under Airport police station yesterday when a group of CPI (M) leaders including the former deputy speaker Pabitra Kar were abused and sought to be obstructed from going ahead with their membership drive programme in Bhagalpur village.

Sources in the CPI (M) said that as per a decision taken by the CPI (M) state committee the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), party’s agricultural front, had been tasked to launch a membership drive from November 1 to 10th. Accordingly, the AIKS state general secretary Pabitra Kar had been put in charge of the membership drive in the Mohanpur subdivision and around 8-00 AM yesterday Pabitra Kar, accompanied by Swapan Nag and Anjana Datta and twenty two other party workers, had reached Bhagalpur village to initiate the membership drive.

They completed their drive by 10-00 AM and on their way back they were showered with vile abuses by five BJP workers and supporters including the ‘Pradhan’ of Bhgalpur Gram Panchayat Jharan Sarkar and BJP leader Subhas Sarkar. The CPI (M) leaders tried mildly to protest this but the invectives continued and they smoothly returned. Later speaking to media persons Pabitra Kar said that the BJP is already isolated from people and this has made them unnerved. He said that despite obstacles created by the BJP the membership drive was completed and many people who had voted for BJP in the last assembly election voluntarily registered themselves as members of the ASIKS. The AIKS also circulated a video cell in the social media showing how a number of BJP workers had been abusing the CPI (M) leaders in various parts of the Bhagalpur Panchayat. “We completed the programme with difficulty but we are convinced that people of the state now want a change of guard and BJP’s days are numbered” said Pabitra Kar.
