In a bizarre incident a farmer narrowly escaped being bitten to death by a deadly Cobra in Kanchanpur subdivision of north Tripura this morning. The bite however could be averted with great difficulty and the deadly reptile was handed over to forest department personnel.Giving details sources from Kanchanpur said that Nirodh Nath (45), a farmer settled in Daincherra village under Kanchanpur police station , lives with his family by agricultural activities on his own land. He also has a pond in his house in the village where he rears fishes for sale.

This morning around 8-00 Nirodh Nath had gone with a net in his pond to catch fish and spread his net. But when Nirodh was pulling his net back he came across a big , zet black snake coiled in the net and at the sight of Nirodh Nath pulling the net back the terrifying snake tried to rise in coil and bite Nirodh Nath. Petrified by the sight of the deadly snake Nirodh started shouting for help and his family members as well as people from the neighbourhood reached the bank of the pond. Taking extra care Nirodh and his neighbours pulled the fish net back and the snake which was still caught in the net started hissing and trying to bite anyone who tried to get close.

Even as the snake remained coiled in the net , a neighbour of Nirodh Nath called up forest department office for help and within a short while a team of 4/5 forest employees arrived on the spot with an apparatus to catch and imprison the snake in . With a good deal of effort the forest employees put the snake into the apparatus they had brought left the spot, assuring Nirodh Nath and his neighbours that all help will be available whenever called for. Before leaving the forest employees said that the snake possibly belongs to the highly venomous and deadly King Cobra species, the deadliest in India and added that rapid deforestation and loss of natural habitats and food are driving snakes and other animals to human habitations.
