A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fact-finding team comprising ministers, MLAs and senior party leaders on Thursday visited violence-hit Santirbazar to assess the situation and meet affected locals. The visit followed directives from Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
The team, led by Animal Resources and Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das along with Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Kamalpur MLA Swapna Das Paul, Bipin Debbarma and Subal Bhowmik, inspected damaged shops, spoke to traders and villagers, and reviewed relief measures with district officials.
Minister Das condemned the October 23 violence, calling it a planned attempt to disrupt peace between tribal and non-tribal communities. He urged people to uphold unity and assured that the state government would act sternly against those responsible.
Das informed that partial compensation had already been given to victims while final assessments were underway. The violence, which broke out during a 24-hour strike by Tiprasa civil society groups, caused extensive property damage and prompted heightened security measures.
