Contraband ‘Ganja’ worth Rs 1.74 crore recovered from two vehicles by Mungiakami police station

The ‘Ganja’ peddlers engaged in sending huge quantities of locally produced ‘Ganja’ outside the state is innovating new methods for carrying on their illegal and money-spinning business. This has come to light today as the personnel of Mungiakami police station seized two massive consignments of ‘Ganja’ from two vehicles worth at least Rs 1.74 crores in Champlai area under Mungiakami police station. One of the vehicles was found to be carrying the sticker ‘On telecom duty’ and it also had in it stickers like ‘Press’ and ‘TSECL duty’ and some fake number plates. Police sources from Teliamura said that acting on a tip-off a police team of Mungiakami police station led by the SDPO (Teliamura) Rohan Krishan and DCM Surajit Debbarma lay in wait and detained a vehicle numbered TR01A0852 and seized altogether 219 kgs of contraband ‘Ganja’ (cannabis) being carried to Bihar. The vehicle was seized and the driver was arrested.
In the second incident another SUV vehicle numbered TR01CA0481 was seized by police personnel in Uttar Maharani area under Teliamura police station. From it ‘Ganja’ weighing 361 kgs was recovered and the driver Sanjit Sarkar was arrested. The SDPO (Teliamura) Rohan Krishan said that both the vehicles will lie impounded and cases under the NDPS act have been registered against the drivers. He said that today’s seizures worth at least Rs 1.74 crores in black market are parts of the continuing police driver against drug and ‘Ganja’ peddling and this will continue.
