In one of the biggest anti-narcotics operations ever conducted in the Kalamchaura police station area, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) seized drugs worth around Rs. 16 crore late Sunday night. The operation was carried out discreetly, without the involvement of the local police, following a tip-off about a notorious drug network operating in the Boxanagar area.

According to reports, around 10 PM on Sunday, the NCB and BSF launched a joint raid at the residence of alleged drug kingpin Alek Hossain in Madhya Boxanagar under Kalamchaura police station limits. Despite an extensive search, no contraband was initially found in Alek’s house. The team then moved to the house of his elder brother Amal Hossain, where they discovered 16 packets of Yaba tablets, approximately 1.6 lakh tablets, with an estimated market value of Rs. 16 crore.

The raid, which continued for nearly five hours, was a major success for the NCB and BSF. Upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, both Alek and Amal reportedly fled the scene. However, NCB officials arrested Alek’s wife, Lipiyara Begum, and took her to the Rahimpur BSF Camp for interrogation.

During the preliminary questioning, Lipiyara is believed to have disclosed vital information regarding the drug network, implicating at least two more individuals from Southpara and Rahimpur areas of Boxanagar.

Local sources revealed that Alek Hossain has been involved in illegal drug trade for several years and is known to have deep connections in the cross-border narcotics network.

Authorities suspect this operation to be part of a larger crackdown against trans-border drug smuggling networks operating along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

Further investigations are underway to apprehend the absconding accused and trace the supply chain involved in the Rs. 16-crore drug seizure.
