KVK, Sepahijala holds a Training cum input Distribution programme on scientific onion cultivation

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sepahijala, CAU (I), Tripura organized one day training cum input distribution program on scientific onion cultivation at Madhya Laxmibill, Bishalgarh block, Sepahijala Tripura in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre and Department of Agriculture and Famers’ Welfare, Sepahijala on 26th September, 2025. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal under the technical guidance Dr. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director, Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal; Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya; Prof A. B. Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, CAU(I), Lembucherra, Tripura and Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Sepahijala. The objective of the programme was to train farmers about scientific onion cultivation, nursery management and distribution of onion seeds.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Biswajit Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre; Ar. Prabir Datta, Agri Sector Officer, Bishalgarh in presence of Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK, Sepahijala and others.

Dr. Biswajit Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre gave an insight into the scientific cultivation practices of onion and highlighted the suitable good varieties of onion under Tripura climatic condition. During the programme, the onion seeds (var. Bhima Super) were distributed among the growers under AINAP project.

Ar. Prabir Datta, Agri Sector Officer, Bishalgarh encouraged the farmers for promoting onion cultivation and increase area under scientific onion cultivation.

Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK, Sepahijala gave an insight into the important diseases and insect pest management of onion and nursery management practices. A total of 30 farmers, farm women, rural youth were actively participated in the programme and interacted with specialist.
