Upholding the tradition of previous years, the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Tripura has announced that semolina, refined flour, and sugar will be provided free of cost to all beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS) this festive season. These staples are widely used in households across the state to prepare various sweet dishes during Puja celebrations.

According to an official press statement, each PDS family will receive 500 gm of semolina (Suji), 2 kg of refined flour (Maida), and 1 kg of sugar. To ensure availability for all 9.90 lakh beneficiaries, the government has procured 1982 metric tonnes of flour, 469 metric tonnes of semolina, and 990 metric tonnes of sugar. The total expenditure for this initiative amounts to Rs 7 crore.

The cost has seen a slight rise compared to last year, when Rs 5.69 crore was spent. Specifically, the expenditure on semolina increased from Rs 0.59 crore to Rs 0.65 crore, refined flour from Rs 2.40 crore to Rs 2.58 crore, and sugar from Rs 2.70 crore to Rs 3.17 crore. An additional Rs 0.60 crore has been allocated for transportation and labour to ensure smooth distribution across all fair price shops in the state.

This initiative comes as a special Puja gift, reflecting the government’s continued effort to support households during festive occasions.
