The Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly criticized the Election Department of Tripura for conducting the intensive revision of the electoral roll in secrecy, without involving opposition political parties.

Speaking at a press conference in Agartala on September 25, senior CPI(M) leaders alleged that the revision process has been initiated without maintaining transparency, which raises concerns about fairness and impartiality. The party stated that such a critical exercise must be done openly, ensuring the participation of all stakeholders, including political parties, so that people’s democratic rights remain protected.

The CPI(M) demanded that the Election Department immediately call an all-party meeting to clarify the procedures and ensure that every eligible citizen’s name is included in the voters’ list, while preventing any unfair exclusion. The leaders also alleged that by keeping the process under wraps, the ruling party might attempt to manipulate the electoral rolls in its favor.

Emphasizing that the credibility of elections depends on an accurate and transparent voters’ list, the CPI(M) leaders urged the Election Commission to intervene and take corrective measures. They warned that any attempt to tamper with the democratic process would face strong resistance from the people of Tripura.

The press conference was attended by senior CPI(M) leaders like Manik Dey, Sudhan Das, Ratan Das and Naresh Jamatia who unanimously demanded transparency and accountability in the revision of the electoral roll, calling the secrecy surrounding the process “deeply objectionable” and “undemocratic.”
