The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) has strongly protested the deprivation of Tripura youths including girls in the recruitment to paramilitary forces in Mizoram, threatening to launch a statewide agitation unless the case of Tripura youths is considered by the union home ministry. In a statement the TPYC president Neel Kamal Saha said that in the recruitment to paramilitary forces every state is given a quota and earlier the recruitment used to take place either in Assam Rifles ground or at Damdamia area. But this year after the results had been out this year the union home ministry notified that the physical tests for eight thousand youths including two thousand girls would be held in remote Jauhasang area at a long distance from the Mizoram state’s capital city Aizawal .
The information had come in this regard on August 20 that the tests would be taken in Jauhasang on August 28 and as a result the youths of Tripura had hardly any opportunity to prepare themselves physically and mentally. TPYC president Neel Kamal Saha said that the decision of the union home ministry had put the Tripura youths in a tight situation as they faced tremendous difficulties in reaching Jauhasang because road conditions were extremely bad and there was hardly any mode of viable transportation. With extremely hard physical exertion and at abnormally high expenses they had to reach the spot , completely drained out physically . Moreover there was heavy harassment meted out to them on the spot and on the way . Naturally the candidates from Tripura failed to put in performances which they were capable of for no fault of their own. Many candidates fell seriously sick because of the hard condition which they had to face.
In his statement TPYC president Neel Kamal Saha demanded immediate arrangement by the union home ministry for fresh tests for the deprived Tripura youths at Agartala or any other place in Tripura. “At a time when the youths in entire country , specially in backward states like Tripura are reeling under acute unemployment problem such deprivation has caused tremendous resentment and urgent steps must be taken to redress the grievances of the state’s deprived youths” said Neel Kamal. He also asserted that unless appropriate action is taken to redress the grievances the TPYC will be left with no other alternative but to launch a statewide agitation.
