The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Tuesday hit out at the ruling BJP, charging it with undermining democratic principles and failing to maintain law and order in the state.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan, TPCC president Ashish Kumar Saha alleged that the BJP government is deliberately fostering divisions between tribal and non-tribal communities to serve its political interests. “Instead of building peace and harmony, the government is promoting unrest,” he said.

Saha condemned a recent demonstration by BJP supporters outside the Congress Bhavan, claiming that derogatory slogans were raised against the central leadership of the party. “The state government is encouraging such provocative acts while trying to silence the opposition. This is not democracy,” he remarked.

The Congress chief further alleged that opposition MLAs and independents have been targeted at their homes, while police remained inactive. Criticising Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman for branding opposition leaders and journalists as enemies, Saha said such politics poses a serious threat to democratic values.
