The Tripura health department has intensified surveillance after 26 dengue cases were detected in Jirania subdivision over the past few days. Officials said 482 samples have been tested so far.

A team led by National Health Mission Director Saju Waheed on Tuesday visited Jirania Community Health Centre and other affected areas, including Sachindranagar Sub-Health Centre, Bikramnagar Health Centre and Jirania Railway Station. The delegation, which also included State Programme Officer Dr Abhijit Das and State Disease Surveillance Officer Dr Antara Banik, interacted with frontline health workers and reviewed preparedness.

Officials directed strengthening of testing, surveillance and awareness drives to contain the spread. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate has asked departments to work in close coordination, while Rapid Response Teams are inspecting vulnerable localities and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

Preventive measures such as larvicidal spraying, fogging and door-to-door campaigns are underway with the support of Jirania Nagar Panchayat and local panchayats. Health workers, ASHAs and community health officers have been tasked with household visits to spread awareness and encourage source reduction to curb further transmission.
