Iron bridge breakdown, more than one thousand families isolated from access to Kailasahar

A total lack of care and maintenance has led to the breakdown of a crucial iron bridge at Laxmicherra that provided the lifeline to more than a thousand families of Kinaichar in the form of access to Kailasahar subdivisional town through Gobindapur around 9-00 in the morning today. Sources from Kailasahar said that the iron bridge connecting Gobindapur and Kinaichar had been built in the year 2002 but there was no repair or maintenance which gradually weakened it. This morning when a tripper vehicle carrying concrete and an E-rickshaw were crossing it , the bridge collapsed. As a result the driver of the tripper vehicle and two women passengers of the E-rickshaw sustained injuries and had to be sent to Kailasahar hospital. The collapse of the iron bridge has isolated more than a thousand families who live in Kinaichar.

The news of the breakdown of the iron bridge spread like wildfire and a host of dignitaries including the MLA of Kailasahar Birajit Sinha and vice chairman of the Gournagar block Badaruzzoman rushed to the spot . Similarly , the DM (Unakoti) Tamal Majumder, SDM (Kailasahar) Pradip Sarkar, SP (Unakoti) Kanta Jangir also reached the spot . Having visited the site of bridge collapse MLA Birajit Sinha and Gournagar block vice chairman Badaruzzoman rushed to the office of the office of the PWD executive engineer and demanded that the important bridge that links two parts of the subdivision be repaired or replaced with a bridge without any delay. The executive engineer is stated to have promised to have the bridge repaired or replaced by a new bridge at the earliest for the convenience of people.
