Over 51,000 Government Posts Vacant in Tripura; Education and Health Departments Top the List

In a significant revelation about manpower shortages in Tripura's government sector.

As per the state government sources a total of 51,784 posts remain vacant across various departments as of 2025. This alarming figure reflects the urgent need for large-scale recruitment to strengthen public service delivery systems in the state.

Among the departments, the Education Department faces the highest shortfall, with 11,945 teaching positions lying vacant. This shortage is likely to impact the quality of education across government schools and higher education institutions in Tripura unless addressed promptly.

The Police Department is also facing a severe staff crunch, with 7,515 vacant posts, hindering the effective maintenance of law and order. In addition, the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), the state's paramilitary force, has 2,405 vacant positions, which is a matter of concern for internal security and disaster response capabilities.

The Health and Family Welfare Department is another major area of concern. It currently has 13,495 posts lying vacant, including 1,366 posts for doctors and medical officers. This shortage directly affects healthcare accessibility and service delivery, especially in rural and tribal areas of the state.

These vacancy figures underline the urgent requirement for targeted recruitment drives, streamlined administrative processes, and policy-level interventions to strengthen Tripura's workforce across essential public sectors. With such a large number of posts unfilled, experts warn that public services could suffer if timely action is not taken.

The state government is expected to take strategic steps in the coming months to initiate recruitment processes and address these critical human resource gaps.
