Tension and protest in Kailasahar over social media message on sale of cheap beef

Fresh tension and muted protest have erupted over a social media message reporting the location where beef at cheap rate will be available. Sources said that a Muslim person had posted a video in social media informing interested persons that beef of four kgs would be available at only Rs 1 thousand . The post also mentioned the place where the beef would be available on sale : the location referred to in the video was a teak garden beside the road from Babur Bazar to Sultanpur.

Spooked by this, senior BJP leader and vice chairman of Kailasahar municipality Nitish De , ‘Mandal’ president Pritam Ghosh , party general secretary Prashanta De and ‘Juba Morcha’ district president Arup Dhar met in deputation with the SP (unakoti) and submitted a letter complaining about the open social media campaign on sale of beef . They asked the SP to take action against the person propagating the sale of beef, hurting religious sentiments.

Speaking to media persons Nitish De said that police would take action in the matter as the person advertising sale of beef on social media is known to be a communal element. He asserted that complaint to police had been filed to prevent any escalation of tension over the sensitive issue.
