Journalist physically assaulted in Gomati district hospital by miscreants, police complaint filed but no action

In an incident which is now a familiar feature in Tripura a journalist was physically assaulted by a gang of miscreants within the Gomati district hospital at Tepania in Udaipur. Sources from Udaipur said that Biswajit Shukladas (26), a youth of Rajdhar Nagar area in Udaipur, had met with a major accident after the motor bike he had been riding had collided with an autorickshaw. The youth was brought to the district hospital by a group of youths for treatment.

At that time a journalist Manik Saha who works for a cable TV channel reached the hospital to gather information and started taking photographs through his mobile. But the youths including a number of miscreants who had brought Biswajit Shukladas to the hospital turned on Manik Saha and snatched away his mobile set besides beating him up severely. The Mobile set broke down even as there was tension among people in the hospital and Manik Saha was forced to leave the spot without taking information and photograph.

Later injured Biswajit Shukladas was referred to the GBP hospital, Agartala by the doctors in Gomati district hospital. Sources said that journalist Manik Saha filed a complaint with the R.K.Pur police station of Udaipur but no action has so far been taken by police. The journalists of Udaipur have condemned the attack on Manik Saha and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the attack on Manik Saha.
