Residents of Bamutia market area have filed a serious complaint with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, alleging that a local man is falsely identifying himself as police and BSF personnel to run an illegal drug business and help undocumented Bangladeshis create fake Indian identity documents.

The complaint, submitted on Thursday during an event at Gandhigram Higher Secondary School, was signed by 21 residents including Deepak Bhowmik, Narayan Roy, and Sameer Das. Copies were also sent to the Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate, OC of Lefunga Police Station, and other officials. However, even two days after the CM received the complaint, the accused individual has not been interrogated or detained by the police.

The accused, Arup Dhar of Bamutia market area, allegedly operates under the guise of being a police or BSF officer, and at times claims to be a member of the Crime Branch. Residents allege that he uses unregistered mobile phones and is part of a larger network involving 7–8 associates. His close aides are reported to be Sahem Miah of Nandan Nagar in Agartala and Liton Miah from Nilam Bazar in Silchar. Together, they are suspected of importing narcotic tablets into the state and aiding in the illegal documentation of Bangladeshi and Rohingya individuals.

Previously, even the Speaker of Surjamaninagar Assembly constituency, Ram Prasad Pal, publicly accused BJP leader Ratan Das of being involved in drug trafficking and claimed to have informed Amtali Police verbally. However, police have not initiated any investigation against him either. This, locals say, contradicts the Chief Minister’s repeated emphasis on "zero tolerance" towards drug crimes.
