Tribal villager drowns to death while searching for snails in pond in Jirania

In a tragic incident a tribal villager of Maharam Sardar para drowned to death in Jiraia market area under Jirania police station . Police sources said that Surjya Debbarma (59), a resident of Maharam Sardar para village , had got down to a pond in the nearby Jirania bazar area around 11-00 in the morning to search for and collect snails. While a number of people had seen him go down to the pond no body saw him get up for a long time. This raised alarm bells ringing and after being informed Surjya Debbarma’s family members called for help from the Fire Brigade authority,

The Fire Brigade jawans failed to trace out Surjya Debbarma’s body despite a long search and finally TSR and NDRF jawans had to be called in for help. After a long search Surjya Debbarma’s lifeless body was recovered around 6-00 in the evening. After post-mortem in Jirania hospital the body was handed over to his family .Surjya Debbarma’s death has cast a shadow of grief and mourning in the Maharam Sardar para village and nearby areas.
