The regional ‘Tipra Motha’ , partner in the state’s coalition government, has tentatively decided to dissociate themselves from the state government on ground of unmet promises made to the party by the BJP central leadership , specially the union home minister Amit Shah. This was announced today in an interaction with the media in Agartala Press Club by the incumbent ‘Tipra Motha’ MLA Ranjit Debbarma who was accompanied by a number of his colleagues. Ranjit said that he had a meeting with the party supremo Pradyot Kishore at 10-00 in the morning today and discussed the whole issue of continuing or withdrawing support.
He asserted that along with 13 ‘Motha’ MLAs and ministers the party MP Kriti Singh Debi will also withdraw support from the BJP even though the latter had won the last Loksabha election as a BJP candidate. A delegation of ‘Motha’ headed by Pradyot Kishore and comprising himself and other leaders will head for Delhi on July 9 for discussion over the whole gamut of issues with union home minister Amit Shah and wait till July 20 before withdrawing support to the government, said Ranjit. A discussion with the chief minister Dr Manik Saha has already taken place.
Indicating reasons for ‘Tipra Motha’s displeasure with the BJP government here Ranjit said that the long-overdue election to the 587 Village Committees within ADC have not yet taken place and the 125th amendment to the constitution for empowering the ten 6th schedule based ADCs in northeast has been pending for a long time and is yet to be passed. He also cited the lack of progress in implementing the accords signed with the union home ministry and the state government. “We have been with the government for more than a year now but our experience is not happy ; we had demanded three berths in the council of ministers but we have been given only one berth as cabinet minister and the other as minister of state ; there has been no discussion before the recent induction to the ministry (of Kishore Barman); only the DM (west) had informed the ‘Maharaja’ at 9-00 in the morning of swearing in soliciting his presence” said Ranjit.
He specially cited the problem of infiltration from Bangladesh with demand for deportation of infiltrators and gave a long list of the formal representations he had made to the union home ministry, security agencies and state authority from August 3 last year. Ranjit also expressed disappointment over the tardy progress made in preventing infiltration and deporting the infiltrators and demanded that drastic action be taken by the central and state government to deport the foreign nationals .
