A seven-member team of MLAs, led by Promod Reang, began a detailed inspection of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) hostels in North Tripura district on Friday. The visit, starting from Dharmanagar Circuit House, is part of a broader legislative initiative to assess hostel conditions across the state.
The inspection team is part of a 16-member multi-party committee constituted by the state assembly to evaluate infrastructure, management, and student welfare in hostels attached to schools for SC and ST students.
During their visit to hostels in Kadamtala, the MLAs interacted with students, reviewed available facilities, and noted critical shortcomings. Promod Reang stated that the team is focusing on identifying systemic gaps and deficiencies that affect student well-being and academic support.
The inspection drive will continue in other parts of North Tripura before moving on to Unakoti district. Once the statewide survey concludes, the committee will present its findings in the assembly and submit detailed recommendations to the state government aimed at improving the hostel ecosystem for marginalised students.
