State exported 33 MT of pineapples in the last five years: Bikash Debbarma

The initiative taken by the state government a few years ago is yielding results as the state has exported over 33 MT of Queen Variety Pineapples in foreign countries during the last five years. The Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma said this while interacting with the farmers at Birashi Mile area of Atharamura hills. He said the quantity of exports is increasing day by day, and the local farmers are also earning lots of money as the fruit is exported.
'Due to the high quality and test the queen varity pineapples are becoming polular among the foreign consumers and the state is getting regular order from new places', he said adding that, so far, pineapple has been exported to0 the countries like Oman, Dubai and Holland and it is expected the coming seaason order will come from some other countries.
He said the producers were used to selling the pineapples at a cost of only Rs 2 or 3 a few years ago, and now they are getting a price, sometimes, more than Rs 30 per piece. It has brought a positive change in the life of the pineapple growers.
