The Tripura government, in a memorandum, said that all the government and semi-government offices in the state will remain open on July 9 when the opposition trade unions have given a call for Bharat Bandh. The official memorandum said that the state will take a strong view if any of the employees remain absent on the day.
The opposition, especially the left party-affiliated trade unions, has given a call for Bharat Bandh on that day in support of their 17-point charter of demands and to protest against the 'anti-people' policies of the ruling BJP government in the centre.
Though the state government opposed the bandh, the leftist organisations are continuing their campaign in support of the Bandh. Reports from Dharmanagar, Teliamura, Udaipur, and many other places said the bandh supporters have organised processions and seminars to apprise people about their demands.
