More than three thousand customers of Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) branch at Moharcherra under Teliamura subdivision have been suffering from total collapse of the services of the TGB branch over the past week in the wake of a protracted power failure caused by short-circuit. Every day hundreds of customers have been visiting the bank branch for transacting their business but they have to return home empty-handed as the entire branch has become dysfunctional .

Sources from Moharcherra said that the dysfunctional state of the bank has put the beneficiaries of various welfare allowances given them by the government by direct benefit transfer (DBT) through banks in a soup . Many of them are very poor and survive on the meagre allowances made available by the government. Even though the condition of services is critical due to lack of services the bank staff and officials are allegedly completely apathetic to the plight of the customers. Sources said that the TGB branch of Moharcherra has been plagued by connectivity problems owing to erratic functioning of the internet on which all services of the bank now depend .

Speaking on the issue the manager of the Moharcherra branch Rina Majumder conceded that the people have been suffering from the non-functioning of the branch but said that she and other officials are in touch with higher authority including the state’s power department and TSECL authority to have the power problem fixed . “We are also having many of our internal functions done with the help of the Teliamura branch but the customer service is seriously affected ; we are also short of staff and this is a major problem ; connectivity problem has been with us from the very beginning but we are trying our best to restore all the services to normal level ; things will be back to normal state soon” Rina Majumder said .
