Altogether 249 candidates who had qualified in the physical tests for recruitment to posts of jail wardens today blockaded the road from Muth Chaumuhuni to erstwhile central prison in front of ‘Purbasha’ . The protested the inordinate delay in holding the written test and viva voce to complete the process of recruitment by the jail department. Sources among the blockading candidates said that the physical test had been conducted in the year 2022 and since then three years have passed but the jail department authority is yet to notify dates for written test and interview for recruitment. They said that they had gone to meet the IG (prison) Jayanta De but he was not available and nobody gave them any satisfactory reply as to when he would be in office to accept the deputation.

After the road blockade had continued for sometime a large police and TSR team from the East Agartala police station arrived on the spot and dispersed the protesters to clear the road. “After this government came to power in 2018 the scope for government jobs has drastically shrunk resulting in growing unemployment; we are now in desperate condition as many of us will cross the upper age limit for recruitment to government services; we will launch our agitation afresh until dates for written test and interview are announced by the jail department” said a senior protester.
