Flurry of unnatural deaths by drowning, suicide , accident and lightning strike continue

The flurry of unnatural deaths from varying reasons continue unabated in Tripura. In a heart-breaking incident a six yearold boy Krishna Das , son of Balaram Das of Pratapgarh Rishipara area under East Agartala police station, had unwittingly gone to have bath in a half-dug pond in the area , unnoticed by anyone . This was supposedly around 12-30 in the afternoon and since the boy had not returned home his parents Balaram Das, a rickshaw puller by profession, and mother Kalpana Das went out to look for him and found his lifeless body floating on water. The boy was taken to hospital but was declared ‘brought dead’. The death of Krishna cast a shadow of grief and anger in the entire area as the man who had got the pond half-dug did not cover it well to prevent any fall.

In the second incident of unnatural death yesterday, the decomposing body of a tribal boy Amit Tripura (13), student of class VII and son of Gunendra Tripura of Vishnupur ADC village under Sabroom subdivision, was recovered in hanging position from a jungle near Ratanmoni Senior Basic school where he studied. Sources said that Amit had been at home in connection with the summer vacation though usually he used to reside in the school hostel . He had been missing since last Friday and despite search by his parents he remained untraced but yesterday his body was recovered from a jungle in Assam Chandra Para. After being informed of the recovery of the dead body police and forensic team from Sabroom arrived on the spot and pulled the body down from a tree where it had been hanging. Sources said that police suspect Amit had committed suicide from depression over the poor financial condition of his parents and the sickness of his father.

Apart from this, a road mishap took away the life of a Scooty rider near Golaghati market under Takarjala police station yesterday around 12-00 PM. Sources from Bishalgarh said that Kartik Das (43), teacher of Madhya Ghaniamara senior basic school , had been heading for Golaghati area on his Scooter but near the market a Bolero vehicle loaded with rubber directly collided with his vehicle and he suffered a serious head injury even as his Scooty got severely damaged. He was taken by local people to Bishalgarh hospital where Kartik Das was declared ‘brought dead’ . However the driver of the Bolero vehcle had managed to flee the spot, driving his vehicle at speed and could not be identified or detained.

In yet another shocking incident a mason identified as Manoj Das (45) died yesterday from the effects of a powerful lightning in Tara Nagar village under Mohanpur subdivision. Sources from Mohanpur said that Manoj Das had been on his way back home from his paddy field for lunch around 1-00 PM amidst a light drizzle . When he was near home a series of powerful lightning struck the area and Manoj Das collapsed on the ground . The local people who had seen this from within their homes took Manoj first to Mohanpur government health centre and then to GBP hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead’ from the effects of lightning as his body had severe burn marks. The agriculture minister Ratan Lal Nath who has been representing Mohanpur area in the assembly since the year 1993 expressed his shock over the death of Manoj and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
