Bangladeshi ‘Momins’ continue Hindu persecution,Hindu institutional names sought to be changed

Even amidst the storm and stress of pre and post-uprising political anarchy in Bangladesh, the ‘Momins’ in that hellscape remain steadfast in acting upon the concepts of ‘Sunna’ (behavioural pattern) and ‘Farz’ (duty). The most prominent of the twin duties of adhering to ‘Sunna’ and ‘Farz’ is the persecution of non-believers, specially the ‘Mushrik’ Hindus. This has been the reality since 1947 and even since 1971 with brief respites during the military rule of H.M.Ershad and initial euphoria over Awami League’s poll victory but the old ghosts and demons invariably returned to haunt and hound the Hindus. A new wave of Hindu persecution gained momentum since the August uprising last year and it continues even now.

The latest among the Hindu victims of the perverse and barbaric religiosity of the ‘Momins’ is an innocent eighteen yearold student Dhruba Brata Das (18), a student of Notre Dame college in Dhaka, who had gone to draw his admit card for the final examination on May 12. His father Banibrata Das had been waiting outside the college but suddenly he saw his profusely bleeding son being carried towards the gate by a group of students and was told that Dhruba had fallen from the roof of a multistoried building of the college while taking a selfie. Dhruba was taken to Dhaka Medical College hospital only to be declared ‘brought dead’. Despite repeated appeals from Dhruba’s parents the college authority refused to give CCTV footage which might have captured the reality behind Dhruba’s death. But such things have become new normal in the hellscape of Bangladesh as the minority Hindus are expendable commodities. Convinced in their suspicion that their son was actually murdered , Dhurba’s parents , Banibrata and Tamanna Singh now only pine for their lost son.

Meanwhile, in yet another exhibition of their habitually hateful nature a gang of fundamentalist ‘Jahils’ in Pabna district of Bangladesh has renamed a female students hostel in Government Edward College. The hostel had been named after legendary Bengali film actress Suchitra Sen (1931-2014) as she had been born in Pabna. But the ‘Jahil’ fundamentalists in their zeal to do away with anything connected to the Hindus and positive actions of the ousted Awami League government recently renamed the hostel as ‘July 36 Girls Hostel’.

Besides, sources from across the border said that a large gang of armed fundamentalist monsters today swooped on the Dahar Mashiahati village under Abhay Nagar sub-district in Jessore district and rendered a large number of Hindu families living there down generations homeless destitutes by setting their homes afire and looting all valuable properties. There was no protection from any individual or institution including police and the Hindu families are now down to roads and fields , having lost everything but details are still awaited.
