Tripura: The Conflict Zone
(A comprehensive fact-sheet on the state's blood-spilling insurgency)

POLITICAL DYNAMICS : TASKS AHEAD

It is felt that all the political parties in the state must reach a consensus on the need for ending insurgency because over the years it has been proved that political parties in Tripura often extend patronage to militant outfits for electoral gains as also for pipping rivals to the post. The CPI (M)'s role behind the emergence of A.T.T.F. in 1990 is still a matter of bitter debate. So is the role of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) which won the ADC elections held in April-May last year at the point of nlft's gun and is currently working only as the political arm of the banned outfit. It was also proved much earlier that TUJS leaders and cadres had close rapport with the erstwhile tnv insurgents led by Bijay Kumar Hrangkhawal.

What the experts suggest is that offensive of security forces against militant outfits must be followed immediately by an orchestrated all party campaign to convince tribal and non-tribal masses that there is no alternative to peaceful co-existence .It is also important to explain to people through organised campaign that history can not be repeated . The basic point is to learn from history ,not to repeat it. Moreover, in today's age of globalisation no individual or society can live and survive in isolation. This point must be driven home to all, suggests advocate and intellectual Mr. Subhasish Talapatra.
