Veteran Journalist Ranjit Debnath breathes his last, hundreds pay tribute

Agartala, February 10, 2019: Tripura's veteran journalist Ranjit Debnath (63) of daily Dainik Sambad breathed his last on last Friday night. He had been the representative of Dainik Samba in Charilam area under Bishalgarh subdivision for many years and is survived by his six siblings. Debnath was a confirmed bachelor and after falling sick of old-age ailments in 2017 he had been living in his brother’s house near Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School. His condition deteriorated on Friday morning and he was shifted to GBP hospital where he breathed his last at night.

A press note issued by secretary of Tripura Working Journalist Association (TWJA), Debasish Majumder said that shortly after receiving information about Ranjit Debnath's death a delegation of TWJA led by Debasish Majumder and president Dibakar Debnath rushed to the hospital and arranged to have the body brought to Agartala Press Club where the press club secretary Pranab Sarkar and president Subal Kumar Dey paid their last respects along with other members of the club.

Then the cortege bearing Ranjit Debnath's mortal remains was taken to Bishalgarh where the president of Bishalgarh press club Samir Bhowmk and secretary Bhabatosh Ghosh paid their last respects. The officer bearers of the subdivisional committee Sadhan Debnath (President) and assistant general secretary Khokan Ghsoh along with SDPO , R.Darlong and other police officials and headmaster of Ananda Marg school Nani Gopal Debnath also paid their last respects.

From Bishalgarh the cortege bearing Ranjit Debnath's last remains was taken to his ancestral home at Charilam where he was cremated in the local crematatorium. Ranjit Debnath was also known for this artistic handwriting in Bengali and for many years he hand-wrote certificates issued by Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) and Tripura University. All those who knew Ranjit Debnath including office-bearers of the Tripura Working Journalist Association (TWJA) paid rich tributes to him as a dedicated journalist of high integrity.
