Agartala November 07 2018: The ICFAI university,Agartala organized a two day national seminar on the crying need for preservation of our 'orality, traditional culture and history' from the growing onslaught of technological short-cuts like What'sapp, Instagram , Facebook etc . All the speakers in the seminar drawn from across the country spoke of the urgent need for preserving and protecting the traditional learning, culture and orality from short-cuts through technologies.

Former vice chancellor of the Gour-Banga university Dr Achinta Biswas, Tripura (central) university professor Asesh Gupta and many other stalwarts from across the country delivered speeches and submitted papers on the chosen subject. All the speakers spoke on the same line to protect 'orality, traditional culture and history'.Altogether 53 papers were submitted and the seminar was enriched by cultural programmes showcased by leading artists Tithi Chakraborty, Bijali Chakraborty and students of ICFAI university.

'Indian culture is possibly the most diverse, colourful and rich in the entire world but because of technological onslaught we are turning away from this; we still have a lot to learn from our culture for a civilized way of life; besides that our traditional wisdom reflected in eh Vedic literature, Upanishads, Puranas and epics have all come down to us through oral transmission before being put on record on fin print; there are umpteen number of indigenous communities who also have oral literature and history which we must study and put on record’ said the eminent speakers.

All the speakers also pointed out that because of desperation to get easy jobs early students are being encouraged and, in certain cases, forced to study science at the cost of social science like history which I very neglected. 'By studying history we can learn about the past and gather invaluable experiences and build our future while standing in the present; it is the neglect of and indifference to history that has cost India dear over the past one thousand years; this can not be repeated and, that is why, we must give equal importance to the study and proper understanding of history; wiki information can not be a substitute for history' said all the eminent scholars consensually.
