Talks fail again but BJP determined to contest in both Parliamentary seats

By Our Correspondent

Agaratla, Mar 15, 2019: The dialogue between BJP and its ally IPFT has failed last night as both parties seemed rigid to their stand on the seat adjustment in the upcoming Parliamentary elections, according to sources.

While IPFT is insisting to contest in East Tripura Lok Sabha seat while the BJP is determined to field candidates in both Parliamentary constituencies leading to a stalemate a much-sought electoral deal between two partners.

Dy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, who was entrusted to convince IPFT leaders on the seat sharing deal, had a meeting with top IPFT leaders in his official residence last night. But the meeting remained inconclusive as both parties struck to their old demand.

IPFT leader Mangal Debbarma today said the party sticks to its earlier decision- contesting in East Tripura Lok Sabha seats by any cost and a decision has already been taken by the party's top leadership.

"We are waiting to the meeting of Members of Central Committee (MCC) which is supposed to commence tomorrow. After the meeting, we will declare our candidates in both seats", he said with confidence.

However, BJP is still hopeful of contesting both Parliamentary constituencies with full support from its ally- IPFT. "Yes, we could not find any solution to the problem- seat adjustment in the last night meeting. We will meet again to remove the problem and this is for sure BJP is set to contest in both Lok Sabha seats", said BJP general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee.

By March 16, the BJP parliamentary board will declare its first list of candidates where party nominee for two seats in Tripura will find place, according to party sources.
